This morning saw all the big news gaming outlets pounce on the Japanese Nintendo website for the announcement of Pokémon Black and Pokémon White, complete with full logos. This slightly bothers me.
See, while Heart Gold And Soul Silver have been out in Japan for about 6 months, giving GameFreak a good bit of cooldown while the translators step in and have at it bringing it to the rest of the world, at least here in Europe it really begs to question: Do we really need news of another new game in the series so soon? I know and understand that Heart Gold and Soul Silver were remakes of old Game Boy Colour games, but they still take time and effort, so I’d be a bit worried about the GameFreak staff maybe stretching themselves a bit too thin and overworking themselves.
But who knows, since the main team is Japan-based, and DIamond/Pearl came out there in 2006, Platinum in 2008 and the Gold and Silver remakes last year, maybe they’ve had an ace in the whole the entire time, been working on it for the last 3 years and are only showing us glimpses of it now? After all, Platinum didn’t really deviate a lot from Diamond and Pearl, aside from a new area, and a few new forms of existing Pokémon like Giratina, Shaymin and Rotom, as well as a few mini-games, so they’ve had plenty of time to brainstorm for new ideas for monsters to catch next year (this Autumn in Japan).
More news to come on these on this hopefully next week, along with (hopefully) information on who all we’ll be catching.
