.. There. I said it.
Sorry guys, I’m going to let you down on this one. As you may recall, before its release, I asked the question, “was the negative press the game was getting entirely justified?” Well, the answer, in my own opinion, is yes, very much so.
I just can’t find it in me to write an honest review about a game that I have no motivation to play again, let alone finish for the first time. It’s fallen by the wayside to newer games, hell, even older games too. It happened with Brutal Legend (that just got boring after a while, and the forced real-time strategy genre twist halfway through came completely out of nowhere, and I hated it for that), it happened with InFamous, and it’s happening here. Sorry Square Enix, but if you insist on designing protagonists that are clearly and obviously unlike-able people, then I have no interest in seeing how their story pans out, because I’d rather see them die. Again and again and again. Not triumph and inevitably save the day.
I’ll finish it eventually, but I’ll end this brief message on this note. Aside from trophy hoarding when I eventually find the time to, I have no interest whatsoever in playing your game again. I want the 12 hours of my life I invested in forcing myself to play your tutorial back. Even Metal Gear Solid wasn’t as cut-scene laden as this. But at least it was enjoyable and stopped telling you how to do stuff after the first hour or 2.
